Energy. Something that we all are trying to get more of. We hype ourselves up on sugary energy drinks and Starbucks Frappucino’s just to crash a couple of hours later and have blazing headaches.
Sure–drinking those drinks may be a “quick fix” for some energy, but have you tried more holistic and healthier options? Your solution to more energy may be as simple as switching a few things up in your daily routine.
Here are some of the most overlooked yet simple ways to feel more energized throughout your day:
1. B Vitamins = Energy
If you went to the doctors feeling exhausted there is a good chance he would prescribe you a B vitamin supplement. Vitamin B-complex, which is simply a term for the 8 total B vitamins, is what helps us feel energized and have mental clarity.
Many of us don’t get enough B vitamins, as it is not present in that many foods. You can find it in red meats, milk and yogurt, to name a few.
You will also find that a lot of energy drinks are filled with B vitamins, but they have a lot of added sugar or questionable ingredients as well.
Try and stay away from sugary caffeine drinks or “energy drinks”. Try grabbing yourself a good Vitamin B supplement (do your research to make sure there is no added fillers or additives).
The other option that isn’t necessarily “holistic”, but is a great option for people who are comfortable with a toned down (and delicious) pre-workout, is called Spark. It has less caffeine then a cup of coffee and has tons of B vitamins! It is the most inexpensive energy supplement/mental focus drink per serving I have seen, and is the only “pre-workout” that doesn’t get me jittery or make my anxiety act up. Plus, it is sugar free! You can grab some here. They also have a caffeine free version for those who are caffeine sensitive.
2. Rest Up
We like to skimp out on our sleep a lot of the time, but SLEEP IS SO IMPORTANT Y’ALL.
Definitely shoot for 7- 8 hours every night, and on your days off, splurge and go for 9 or 10. Your body NEEDS that time to restore and refresh itself. Did you know that getting enough sleep also helps with weight loss? Here’s how:
- You won’t be awake longer which means less time for you to think about food (LOL).
- Your body won’t hold as much water weight, and won’t be as stressed or exhausted, so weight loss will naturally occur in a MUCH smoother way.
A free app that I LOVE to use to help me sleep is called Sleep Cycle. You set it by your bed and it will track your movements while you sleep and determine your sleep cycles, and will wake you up (within 30 minutes) of the alarm you set based of when you are closest to the end of your sleep cycle–AKA when you will be least tired. The alarm is very peaceful to wake up to and gradually gets louder if you don’t wake up. I always wake up in a pleasant mood using the app–you should definitely give it a try!
3. Stay Hydrated
Believe it or not, dehydration is one of the most overlooked things EVER. I even have a hard time realizing when I am dehydrated after consciously paying attention to my water intake for months and months! When you are dehydrated, it often feels like hunger pains or exhaustion. You don’t necessarily feel “thirsty” until you are REALLY dehydrated.
Remember that our bodies are made up of 75% water, we need to keep hydrated so all of our organs are functioning properly! You will have to pee a lot, but just remember you are flushing out nasty toxins from your body and when you make a conscious effort to drink 64oz. + every day, you will feel a lot more energized.
4. Eat A Well-Rounded Diet
I sound like a broken record, don’t I? You hear it all the time, yet none of us actually DO IT. You don’t need the quick fixes, if you make the simple healthy choices NOW, you will see all of the problems you face (like depleted energy) just slip away!
Eating a well-rounded diet filled with healthy and whole foods is more than being simply “healthy”. If we eat processed foods and junk foods all the time, we lack getting our proper nutrients that help our body function 100%, so we look to those quick fixes to temporarily fill the void.
